ABOUT US
Dynamic Balance for Life® was created by co-founders Michael and Meera as a way to help older people avoid and reduce the severity of falls using Judo-based techniques.
THE JOURNEY
To get to where we are
“As we got older, we became aware of friends in our age group suffering from catastrophic injuries from what seemed like minor falls in everyday life! It occurred to us that most of their injuries may have been avoided if they knew the fundamentals of landing safely, as we had learned from our judo practice.
There are many excellent programs for improving balance and falls prevention, as well as floor transfer recovery after a fall, but there seems to be a glaring gap in actually teaching people how to land safely when they lose their balance and fall!, that’s where this program comes in.
The term ‘Dynamic Balance’ refers to the fact that people need to be able to maintain control and posture not only in static situations, but also when they are moving. We were fortunate to partner with experts in frailty and ageing, from the University of Adelaide to conduct research on our Program. Development of the program was supported, in part, with funds from Office of Sport, Recreation and Racing, SA Govt, the University of Adelaide and The Hospital Research Foundation.”
